Cascades Theatrical Co. offers sneak peek
An all-volunteer theater in Bend is embarking on their 34th season, and Sunday, the community was invited to a sneak peek.
The Cascades Theatrical Company began in 1978 and is the first community theater in Bend.
The six main shows they produce in a year involve 125 to 150 volunteers who put in 18,000 to 22,000 hours. Volunteers range in age from 6 to 84.
“We are a volunteer-based organization,” said Lana Shane, theater operations manager.
“So basically, literally, the love of theater of people in this community have kept us going. Season after season, we present anywhere from six to nine plays every single season, every year — and we haven’t missed a year.”
Some of the shows include: “Wrong Window,” a farce on Alfred Hitchcock’s movies, “It’s Only Money,” a musical by local playwright David Forrest, based on his experience on Wall Street, the Shakespeare comedy “The Twelfth Night” and “The Shadow Box,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.
Auditions for “Wrong Window” are August 13 and 14, and for “It’s Only Money” on August 20 and 21.
