Driver cited in Deschutes Market Rd. crash

A Redmond woman received minor injuries and was cited Monday after her pickup struck the rear of another pickup that was making a turn at a northeast Bend intersection, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched around 11 a.m. to a reported two-vehicle rollover crash on Deschutes Market Road at Margaret Lane, said Sgt. Joe DeLuca.

An investigation determined that Jerry Cartwright of Bend was northbound on Deschutes Market at the wheel of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma and began turning east (right) onto Margaret Lane, DeLuca said.

A 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Betty Vaughn of Redmond was northbound behind Cartwright when he started to make the turn, the sergeant said.

Vaughn was too close to Cartwright’s pickup, DeLuca said, and she believed he was going to turn left (west). Vaughn began to go around Cartwright on the right-hand side when Cartwright’s car began the turn, he said.

Vaughn tried to avoid a collision by turning to her left, but her pickup rolled onto the passenger side and struck Cartwright’s pickup, DeLuca said.

Vaughn was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend for treatment of minor injuries, DeLuca said. There were no injuries to Vaughn’s passengers (three juveniles), Cartwright or his passenger, deputies said.

Vaughn was cited for following too close and for driving with a suspended license, DeLuca said, adding that both vehicles were towed from the scene.
