Oregon State Police released details Tuesday of a head-on crash near Santiam Pass last Friday afternoon that sent both drivers and a passenger to a Bend hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, a 1993 Honda Accord driven by Alexis Reyna, 20, of Bend, was eastbound on Highway 20 east of the pass when it crossed the double-solid center line and collided head-on with an oncoming 2003 Nissan Murano driven by Robert Pichardo, 45, of Bend, troopers said.

After impact, the Nissan rolled onto its driver side, coming to rest along the shoulder, while the Honda came to a stop on the opposite shoulder, they said.

Both drivers and a passenger in the Nissan, Michele Pichardo, 36, received non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Troopers said the drivers were flown by AirLink and Life Flight helicopters to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend with serious injuries, while the passenger went to the hospital by ambulance. A nursing supervisor said none were in the public patient directory at the hospital Tuesday night.

The crash shut the highway for about an hour, causing miles-long backups that took hours to clear. OSP was assisted at the scene by Deschutes and Jefferson county sheriff’s deputies, Black Butte Ranch police and ODOT.
