Volunteers in Medicine adds 3 board members

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) announced Thursday that three new members have joined the organization’s board ofdirectors.

The new members areKurt Barker, partner at Karnopp Petersen LLP;Tanya Hayden, vice president Bend Research; and Dan Stevens, seniorvice president of PacificSource Health Plans.

Kurt Barkerhas worked for VIM as an attorney for several years since moving to Bend from Portland in 2008. Prior to moving to Bend, Barkerpracticed labor and employment law with Stoel Rives LLP in Portland, where he focused his practice in employment related issues. Hecurrently serves as the Chair of Karnopp Petersen’s employment law department, where his practice continues to emphasize the defense andcounsel of clients in employment matters. “It’s hard not to be inspired by the practitioners I’ve met who love their work at VIM, and by the storiesof success that can be found here,” Barker said. He is also involved with numerous other organizations, including the Human ResourcesAssociation of Central Oregon (HRACO), the Deschutes County Bar Association, and the Society of Human Resources Management.

Tanya Haydenis a vice president and member of the management team at Bend Researchwhere she is responsible for design and implementation of project management initiatives.A Bend native, she looks to put her experience in strategic plan development and fundraising to use at VIM. “VIM is an exceptional non-profit, focused on thecommunity I grew up in, and offers nice parallels to the purpose of my profession,” said Hayden. “It will be a pleasure to serve the community through VIM.”

Dan Stevensrelocated to Central Oregon in 2010 after serving for 20 years in various healthcare leadership roles in the Portland area. He isSenior VP with PacificSource Health Plans, and the Chief Operating Officer of PacificSource Community Health Plans, which houses thecompany’s Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. Stevens adds years of experience working within the nonprofit medical sector to the VIMBoard of directors. “I have a passion for improving the health of our population in Central Oregon,” said Stevens, “and would love to help VIMtake its efforts even further.” Stevens is a member of the Board of several other organizations, including the Central Oregon Health Counciland United Way of Deschutes County.

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades (VIM) cares for working adults in Deschutes County who do not make enough money to affordmedical insurance or services. We use a community approach to provide comprehensive healthcare to patients, age 19-64, without charge.Our goals are achieved through the collaborative efforts of 486 in-clinic volunteers and 344 local medical partners.
