Sunriver developer John Gray dies at 93

KTVZ

Portland developer and philanthropist John Gray, developer of such iconic Oregon resorts as Sunriver and Salishan, has died.

Gray, who was 93, was known for developing some of the state’s most prominent resorts, including the Sunriver resort near Bend and the Salishan resort on the Oregon Coast.

Later in life, he became known for his philanthropic efforts.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/SXvUxF ) that much of his philanthropy was devoted to environmental education programs, but he also supported Habitat for Humanity, contributed to community college scholarships and pledged $5 million to the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University.

Gov. John Kitzhaber released a statement Monday saying Oregon will miss Gray, but his generosity and innovative spirit live on in communities from the coast to Portland to the High Desert.
