KTVZ

Oregon State University-Cascades posted official fall enrollment numbers this week, showing a slight increase over anticipated total enrollment, officials said Thursday.

The growing campus has a total enrollment of 1,039 students, including 238 students taking lower-level courses at Central Oregon Community College, in preparation for transferring to OSU-Cascades.

This reflects an overall enrollment increase of 11 percent and a 39 percent increase in freshmen and sophomores.

Juniors, seniors and graduate students, who represent the group officially counted by the Oregon University System, are up nearly 5 percent, to 801 students, although the FTE (full-time equivalent) count decreased, reflecting fewer students taking full course loads.

Thirty percent of the student body is new to OSU-Cascades this fall. OSU-Cascades continues to draw students primarily from Central Oregon and Oregon, although students also represent California and 17 other states.

There are 124 students in the graduate counseling and teaching programs; those programs are now delivered out of the Graduate & Research Center.

More than 65 students, twice as many as in 2011, are taking OSU online courses.

Oregon State University’s main campus in Corvallis grew by 4 percent.

Overall enrollment in Oregon’s public universities has hit an all-time high, but the growth rate has slowed after four years of spikes.

The Oregon University System said Thursday enrollment at the seven campuses topped 101,000 this fall. That’s an increase of 1 percent over last year.
