Jewelers match Bend PD K-9 fundraising

KTVZ

The Bend Police Department is proud to partner with the community to provide the finest police services via special programs such as the Police K9 program. The Bend Police Department has recently added a Tracking Bloodhound “Ranger” and Narcotics Detection K9 “Zoe.” These two new K9s join the ranks with Patrol K9’s “Zlatan” and “Haras.”

Although the Police K9 program is an efficient tool used by police agencies all over the world, it is not without a price tag. Maintaining a Police K9 program is a challenge for any law enforcement agency, especially in these tough economic times.

Without help from the community the Bend Police K9 program would surely suffer. The generosity of the community has been overwhelming and continued support will keep the K9 program running strong.

In 2012, the Bend Police K9’s have been deployed over 300 times. Notably, “Zlatan” and “Haras” have tracked down some of our communities’ worst offenders and helped keep our community a safe and desirable place to live and recreate.

Saxon’s Fine Jewelers has challenged the community and businesses of Central Oregon to show your appreciation and thanks to the Bend Police K9 program. Saxon’s Fine Jewelers will match any donations made to the K9 program up to $2,500.

Donations can be made by visiting the “Friends of K9” website at: http://www.ci.bend.or.us/index.aspx?page=780

Any questions about this fundraising drive can be directed to Officer Leo “Lucky” Lotito at (541) 322-2960.
