BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Silver Rail Elementary School, the scene of the tragic mass shooting a week ago, will remain closed at least through next week, Bend-La Pine Schools announced Thursday.

Beyond that, the school district said, "Our district and school leaders are in conversations with Silver Rail staff and families about what a return-to-learning plan looks like for students."

Here's the update posted to the Silver Rail Community Information Hub:

"There will be no school for all Silver Rail students next week (October 26-30). With scheduled conferences in our elementary and middle schools next week, students in other schools will attend Monday and Tuesday, and conferences will follow the rest of the week.

"The Boys and Girls Club has extended 150 child care openings to Silver Rail families from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekdays. You can learn more about child care and activity options on the Silver Rail Family Information page on our Hub site."

Another update posted Thursday updated the status and plans for law enforcement presence in the schools - and in the neighborhoods surrounding them:

"Thank you to our partners with the Bend Police Department and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for their support Wednesday during our return to learning. They provided at least one officer or deputy at each of our 32 schools across the district.

"The individual school presence was only for the return to school on Wednesday. Moving forward, there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the neighborhoods surrounding our schools. The eight School Resource Officers assigned to Bend-La Pine Schools will continue to rotate between multiple schools throughout the day.

"We cannot express our gratitude to our law enforcement agencies enough for all of the support they have given to our students, families and staff in the last week. We understand that due to law enforcement staffing and other needs around our community, they are unable to have an officer present at every school, every day. We know they protect and serve our greater Bend and La Pine communities."
