Prineville pair unhurt in crash on snowy road

Two Prineville residents escaped injury Saturday night in the rollover crash of their pickup truck on a snowy forest road northeast of Prineville, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were called to the reported single-vehicle crash around 8:25 p.m. on Forest Service Road 27, about 18 miles northeast of Prineville, Sgt. Travis Jurgens.

Deputies found a green 2002 Dodge pickup on its roof blocking the southbound lane, and a trailer carrying two ATVs in the ditch, Jurgens said.

Deputies determined the driver, Melonie Hanks, had been heading south when she lost control of the pickup on the snow-covered road, Jurgens said.

The truck left the road and struck a rock embankment, causing the ATV trailer to disengage, and the pickup rolled onto its top, he said.

Hanks and passenger Todd Cole, 50, were unhurt, Jurgens said, adding that both were wearing their seat belts at the time.

Oregon State Police assisted the sheriff’s office in the investigation. Jurgens said no citations were issued.
