Truck crash blocks Hwy. 20E for six hours
Highway 20 east of Hampton near the Deschutes, Lake and Harney County lines was closed for about six hours Monday morning following a non-injury commercial truck crash, Oregon State Police said.
A second minor injury crash also occurred in the traffic backup. Traffic was open to one lane by midday while hazardous material response personnel cleaned up a small diesel spill at the crash scene.
Around 4:45 a.m., troopers say a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with windows was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 80 negotiating a curve when the driver lost control on the icy/snow covered road.
The truck and semi-trailer came to rest across the highway after sliding to a stop. A fuel tank leaked about 20 gallons of diesel and the driver was not injured.
Later Monday morning, an eastbound pickup’s driver failed to notice stopped traffic ahead and crashed into the back of a stopped semi-trailer. The pickup’s driver was not injured but his pregnant wife was taken by a private party to St. Charles-Bend for a checkup of possible minor injury.
Traffic was opened up to one lane for both directions using flaggers at about 11 a.m.
OSP troopers from the Burns office responded to investigate both crashes. ODOT is coordinating scene and diesel fuel clean up. Traffic updates posted at www.TripCheck.com.
