Struggling shelter seeks help at holidays
The Shepherd’s House, a local charity serving Bend’s homeless, has struggled throughout 2012 to meet the needs of Bend’s homeless on a very tight budget.
Every month the organization barely raised enough support to keep the doors open. The Shepherd’s House is asking the community of Bend to consider donating to The Shepherd’s House as part of their Christmas or year end charitable contributions.
“The Shepherd’s House relies solely on community support to help the homeless. We have been getting by each month, but it is very tight and in order to continue to serve the homeless and help the homeless become productive community members, we are asking folks to consider The Shepherd’s House for their Christmas and year-end charitable giving,” Said Curt Floski, Director of The Shepherd’s House.
According to the 2012 Central Oregon One Day Homeless count, there are 2,132 homeless people in the tri-county area of Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties. The Shepherd’s House provides over 25,000 meals per year and over 10,000 nights of shelter. In addition, The Shepherd’s House offers a recovery program that helps homeless men transform their lives and become productive members of the community.
