Holidays bring tail-wagging joy at Bend shelter

KTVZ

The Humane Society of Central Oregon brought some holiday cheer to homeless animals at an open house Sunday.

Many showed up in hopes of giving a companion a new home for the holidays. Others stopped by to drop off donations for animals at the shelter, including Mimi Ausland, who is one of the main characters in the cook “Mimi and Maty to the Rescue” about the widely known teen who started the freekibble.com Website and the shelter’s just as famous disc-catching, three-legged dog.

Both Mimi and Maty signed and sold books to raise money for the shelter, as well as dropping off a big donation for the holidays.

“Today we brought over 2,000 pounds to the humane society,” said Ausland. “This is the holiday kibble drop. so it will be going towards the animals’ holiday meals, and just helping them this month.”

Ausland started Free Kibble when she was 11, and she has been feeding homeless dogs and cats across the country, with the help of mouse-clicking visitors, ever since.
