Heart of Oregon Corps marks AmeriCorps Week

Heart of Oregon Corps, the largest AmeriCorps-serving agency in Central Oregon, commemorates national AmeriCorps Week, March 9-17. The organization’s AmeriCorps members perform various types of community service to benefit the region.

This week, Heart of Oregon Corps members are helping to improve local public lands by building trail in the Tumalo Canal Historic Area, located between Cline Butte Highway and Barr Road and designated an ‘Area of Critical Environmental Concern’ in 2005.

Clean Energy Service Corps, an AmeriCorps program operated in partnership between Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and Heart of Oregon Corps, is working in Prineville to weatherize a previously uninsulated early 20th century home that is owned by a disabled woman. AmeriCorps members in Heart of Oregon Corps YouthBuild began construction on two affordable-income homes this week in Redmond.

AmeriCorps Week is an annual event designed to honor the over 800,000 members and alums who have committed more than 1 billion total hours of service to the country since 1994. AmeriCorps members serve thousands of nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations around the country to expand services, build capacity, fundraise, develop partnerships, and create effective and sustainable programs.
