Becca’s Closet has formalwear for C.O. teens

KTVZ

Thousands of dresses and many tuxedos and suits are waiting at Becca’s Closet in Bend for students to wear them to the prom or dance.

Bend’s Community Center is hosting Becca’s Closet again for Prom season.

Becca’s Closet is part of a national organization that lends free formalwear for high school students with valid student ID.

It’s a way for teens who can’t afford to buy dress clothes to go to dances. The closet is open Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to dresses and suits, there are jewelry, shoes and accessories.

Becca’s Closet opened this month at Bend’s Community Center and will close in mid-May.

The organization also is looking for teens and adults to volunteer to help run the closet.

There are also opportunities to purchase some of the clothing at a low cost.

“There’s a peer pressure in school.,” organizer Linda Heatley said Saturday. “And this enables boys and girls to go to their prom and feel like they are something special, too.”
