Volunteers renovate Bend shelter’s bathroom
Thanks to local designers’ generosity, Bend’s Saving Grace is getting a much-welcomed and modern new bathroom at its shelter for women and kids.
The local organization provides support and service to victims of domestic violence.
It’s all thanks to the High Desert Design Council, which chose the shelter for its 2013 philanthropic project.
Five volunteers got to work Saturd ay on the bathroom, which as many as 24 people use at any given time.
The bathroom was gutted and will have new plumbing, cabinets, lighting, flooring and paint.
High Desert Design Council President Patty Jones says they thought the bathroom was a good project, because it was dreary and dated.
“It will be beautiful when it’s done — we’re really excited,” she says. “The house was built in 1990 and it’s really had no major renovations, since, so it was really in sad shape.”
Jones says she hopes a warm, inviting bathroom will benefit victims, who might not be feeling good about themselves.
A clean, updated bathroom will help shelter residents focus on what’s important: healing.
