Sun Country raft trip to benefit Deschutes Children’s Forest

Sun Country Tours is hosting a special Big Eddy Thriller whitewater rafting trip on Sunday, September 15, at 2:30 p.m. to benefit the Deschutes Children’s Forest.

Guests on this trip will benefit too, as the cost has been discounted to $25 per person, with all proceeds going to the Deschutes Children’s Forest.

Sun Country Tours President Dennis Oliphant, who is a longtime advocate of charities that serve children, says fundraising trips are a great way to give back to the community.

“Offering discounted trips and donating the proceeds supports charities we believe in,” explains Oliphant. “And it’s a great way to offer an incentive to the community to rally around a cause, as well as a way to thank the locals for their ongoing support. Additionally, the goals of the Deschutes Children’s Forest are in line with our commitment to provide access for families to our incredible natural world.”

In addition to volunteering his time to various organizations, Oliphant established the Sun Country Tours Foundation more than 20 years ago. The non-profit foundation donates more than $20,000 annually to regional organizations that specifically focus on youth, education and environmental causes.

“We are dedicated to the idea that all children in Central Oregon deserve a chance to explore, learn and play in nature,” says Deschutes Children’s Forest Coordinator Katie Chipko. “With children spending more and more time in front of a screen, and with childhood obesity rates on the rise, we feel that now more than ever we need to provide opportunities for children to connect with nature.”
