Four injured in crash on Hwy. 97 near Chemult
Four people were taken to the hospital, two seriously, Monday afternoon after a two-car crash on Highway 97 near Chemult in northern Klamath County, Oregon State Police said.
Troopers investigating the crash said fatigue is a possible contributing factor.
Around 12:30 p.m., a gray Acura SUV driven by Marilyn Christian, 75, from Klamath Falls, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 210 when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Ford F-150 pulling a travel trailer.
Emergency crews cut Christian out of the wreckage and took her, along with her husband and passenger Albert Christian, 74, by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, troopers said.
The southbound Ford F-150 was driven by George D. Stone, 64, from Petaluma, California. He and his wife-passenger Debi Stone were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All four occupants of the two cars were wearing seat belts and their vehicles’ airbags also deployed.
The unoccupied trailer was destroyed, troopers said.
OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command are investigating. Trooper Craig Rice is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, the Chemult Rural Fire District and the Crescent Rural Fire Protection District. The highway was closed for over an hour and reduced to one lane of travel for another hour.
