KTVZ

The AMBER Alert issued for Gresham Police Department was canceled and deactivated Saturday night. Gresham police confirmed the suspect was taken into custody and the child, his 2-year-old daughter, was found safe.

Oregon State Police and Gresham police thanked the media and public for their interest during the AMBER Alert activation and search for child and suspect.

Earlier story:

An AMBER Alert was issued Saturday for an “armed and dangerous” suspect who fled with his 2-year-old daughter after a woman was shot in a Gresham apartment Saturday morning, police said.

Police said 36-year-old Joshua Cavett is considered armed and dangerous and took off with his biological daughter Paige Cavett, whom he does not have legal custody of.

The victim was found shot just before noon at the Holly Ridge apartments in the 2700 block of West Powell Boulevard, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean with Gresham police.

The victim reportedly has life-threatening injuries.

Police earlier indicated they were looking for a blue 1997 Ford F250 with Oregon plates, but later Saturday said that vehicle was not involved. Police said he could be in a black Dodge Charger instead.

Another vehicle possibly related to Cavett is a 1990s red Mustang with front end damage, officers said later. They had no license plate information.

Police said Cavett, a member of the Gypsy Jokers motorcycle gang, took off with his biological daughter.

Cavett was described as 5-foot-9, 266 lbs., wearing a dark beanie. He has a neck and face tattoos, police said. He was wearing a black puffy jacket, a backpack and dark baggy pants. He has multiple tattoos on his face, neck, arms and back.

Anyone who sees Cavett was urged to call 911 or 1-865-5-AMBER-5.
