Rock-throwing burglar hits Bend Westside liquor store
A man carrying a large sack used a rock to smash his way into Bend’s Westside liquor store early Monday morning and grabbed about 30 bottles of alcohol before fleeing, police said Tuesday.
Officers responded around 7:45 a.m. Monday to Giorgio’s West Bend Liquor at 155 SW Century Drive and learned someone had used a rock to break out the glass front door about 2 hours earlier, around 5:20 a.m.
Surveillance images were too dark to help much, Taylor said, so there is limited information about the suspect, other than that he was a male wearing a heavy, dark-colored Carhartt-type coat with a hood, cargo pants and a baseball cap.
The burglar placed the bottles of alcohol in a large sack before leaving on foot.
Police asked the public for help in identifying and finding the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Whitney Wiles at (541) 322-2960 or (541) 693-6911.
Earlier this year, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission voted to add four liquor stores, including the one on Bend’s Westside, to a test program to sell beer and wine, in addition to hard liquor.
