Third Bend park hit with graffiti in recent days
Bend Park and Rec officials said on Wednesday this is the most costly year of vandalism, as another local park is hit with graffiti.
Director of Park Services Pat Erwert said Quail Park near COCC on Awbrey Butte was vandalized over the weekend.
“The damages are pretty significant, and on a hard surface,” Erwert said.
Concrete near the playground is covered with large phrases.
Erwert estimates it could cost the district between $500 and $1,000 to clean up.
He said last year, they spent about $15,000 in total to clean up vandalism, and most of it was graffiti. He says this year, the district will likely spend well over $20,000.
On a brighter note, kids on Wednesday were back playing on the boat in Harmon Park.
Park officials finished cleaning up the other two parks tagged, Harmon and Al Moody Parks, last week.
“I’m extremely pleased they took care of it so quickly because we all want to be able to be out here in it and enjoy the fall days,” said Bend resident Angela Chisum.
Anyone with information on any of the crimes is asked to call Bend police. Yyou could be eligible for a cash reward.
