Changes coming to your Local Alert Weather forecast
Big changes are coming to NewsChannel 21’s Local Alert Weather Center as we upgrade our current weather system to TruVu Max!
TruVu Max is a powerful new tool for our team to give the forecast on a hyper-local level unseen before in Central Oregon.
“Our new in-house forecast model has a resolution of four kilometers and will clearly show when and where rain will become snow,” said NewChannel 21 meteorologist Travis Knudsen. “That’s particularly useful in Central Oregon, where elevation plays such a huge role in our day to day weather.”
Observations of temperatures, wind speed and direction, previously unavailable for local cities and towns across Central Oregon, will now be shown on a daily basis.
“I’m very excited about our ability to ingest more than just METAR weather observations from around the state,” Knudsen said. “Being able to show current observations in more than just Bend and Redmond is something we’ve wanted the ability to do for a very long time. It’s exciting now that we are finally able to do so.”
Expect to see TruVu Max appearing on your TV screen March 15th.
