Open house on burn plans near Black Butte Ranch

KTVZ

In late March, the Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest will be hosting a Public Open House to discuss prescribed fire projects planned for 2014 near the community of Black Butte Ranch.

On Monday, March 24Forest Service employees will be available at the Black Butte Ranch Community Center from 10 a.m. to noon and from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. to discuss questions and concerns related to prescribed fire projects planned in close proximity to Black Butte Ranch. Individuals are welcome to come and go at any time during the open houses as no formal presentation will be made.

This is the second Public Open House to discuss 2014 prescribed fire projects the Sisters Ranger District has held during March.

Projects planned for 2014 are primarily within the Glaze Meadow restoration area, east of Black Butte Ranch. These burns will restore Ponderosa Pine ecosystems to a more natural and healthy stand density by restoring the role of low intensity fire, which will reduce the risk of future high intensity wildfires in the area.

For more information or to be added to the prescribed fire notification list people can contact Jinny Reed, Sisters District Fuel Manager, at 541-7644, or Prescribed Fire Technician Trevor Miller at 549-7638, or Prescribed Fire Technician Amanda Stamper at 549-7680.
