BrightSide to offer basic dog training classes

KTVZ

BrightSide Animal Center will offer a series of beginning obedience classes for dog owners and their pets.

BrightSide’s basic obedience class is a great way to enhance your relationship with your dog.

The class introduces essential skills for a well-behaved dog including sit, down, stay, heeling while walking, loose leash walking, recall, leave it and more, as well as education for the dog owner on the principles of dog training.

The daytime series meets Tuesdays at 11 a.m. for six weeks from May 6 through June 17 (no class on May 27). The evening series meets on the same dates at 6 p.m.

BrightSide Animal Center also will offer a series of intermediate obedience classes for dog owners and their pets who have completed beginning dog training.

This series builds on the skills introduced in the beginning class, adding more distractions, greater distances and longer durations.

A strong focus of the six-session series is the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program, and testing will be offered for those who are interested in obtaining the Canine Good Citizen certificate for their dogs (for information about the test, see http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm).

The daytime series meets Thursdays at 11 a.m. for six weeks from May 8 through June 19 (no class on May 29). The evening series meets on the same dates at 6 p.m.

Classes will be held at BrightSide Animal Center, 1355 NE Hemlock Ave. in Redmond.

Advance registration and payment ($90 for six sessions) are required.
