KTVZ

The Des Chutes Historical Museum invites submissions for the first annual Preservation Month Photograph Contest.

Do you have a special place, artifact, or building that you love for its history? Is it at least 50 years old? We want to know what your favorite spaces are; we want to SEE your photographs!

This is a free photo contest to raise awareness about-and appreciation for- local historic landmarks and the efforts that have been taken to preserve them for future generations.

ENTER YOUR PHOTOGRAPH: To read contest rules and enter your photograph, visit the Des Chutes Historical Museum website and follow the instructions to enter: www.deschuteshistory.org. Enter in one of the three categories: Professional Photographers, Amateur Photographers, or Youth Photographers (18 years and under). Limit one entry per photographer.

HOW PHOTOS WILL BE JUDGED/FEATURED: Judging will be based on image quality and the visual expression of the historic subject matter. First, second, and third place winners in each category will be unveiled at the Preservation Month Kick-Off Party at the Liberty Theater during First Friday Art Walk on May 2. The winning photographs will be enlarged and mounted for display throughout the month of May, then presented back to the winner at the end of the month. The deadline to submit photographs is Monday, April 28.

Residents and visitors to Deschutes County are invited to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month in May. The Deschutes County Historical Society is one of several heritage based organizations who have joined forces for a series of events, programs, and workshops that will engage and enlighten audiences all month long. See the attached Preservation Month scheduled events flyer. National Historic Preservation Month activities are brought to you by the Deschutes County Historic Landmarks Commission, the City of Bend Historic Landmarks Commission, the City of Redmond Landmarks Commission, the Deschutes County Historical Society, the Prineville District Office, and The Tower Theatre Foundation.

For more information about the photo contest or National Historic Preservation Month, please visit the Des Chutes Historical Museum website at www.deschuteshistory.org or call (541) 389-1813 for more information. The Des Chutes Historical Museum is located at 129 NW Idaho Ave, between Wall and Bond.
