Two Redmond asst. principals moving up

Redmond School District Superintendent Mike McIntosh on Wednesday announced a new leadership team for Redmond High School and Obsidian Middle School.

Tony Pupo, Redmond High School assistant principal, will replace outgoing RHS principal Nicole MacTavish, who accepted a position with Nampa School District in Nampa, Idaho.

Pupo was previously selected to serve as planning principal of Hugh Hartman Elementary School. He has been with the district for seven years and has served as assistant principal of RHS for three years.

Pupo, along with recently hired Paul Nolan, assistant principal and Chad Lowe, RHS teacher, who has been appointed to the role of academic dean of students, will serve as the leadership team for Redmond High School.

Tami Nakamura, Redmond High School assistant principal, will replace Obsidian Middle School principal Sandra Harris, who has accepted a district level position.

Sam Platt has been appointed to the role of assistant principal, replacing outgoing Andy Martin, who resigned this summer. Platt recently received his administrative licensure through the University of Oregon and has been an educator in the Redmond School District for eight years.

Also, the district has appointed Rayna Nordstrom to the role of dean of students at Obsidian Middle School. Nordstrom has been teaching in the district for 24 years and is currently pursuing her administrative licensure through the University of Oregon.

The district will follow board policy to fill the role of planning principal of Hartman Elementary School, which is slated to open in the fall of 2015.

“Although transitions during the summer can be challenging, I am excited that the district has been able to pull together such a strong team of administrators for Redmond High School and Obsidian Middle School,” McIntosh said. “Redmond School District is home to a talented team and we are proud to promote these new leaders from within.”
