Ex-Ridgeview HS monitor hesitates on plea deal

A former Ridgeview High hallway monitor accused of having sex with a minor and providing alcohol to others was scheduled to change her plea and be sentenced Friday morning, but apparently 30-year-old Amanda Hinshaw had a change of heart.

Hinshaw decided to, at least for now, reject a deal offered by prosecutors. In court, Deschutes County Circuit Judge Wells Ashby and Hinshaw’s attorney discussed the proposed plea agreement, in which Hinshaw would plead guilty to sexual harassment and multiple counts of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Hinshaw was arrested in December 2012 after police said she had sex with a 16-year-old Gilchrist boy and gave several other teens alcohol.

In addition to misdemeanors for furnishing alcohol to minors, she was also charged with second-degree felony sex abuse.

Judge Ashby released Hinshaw on the same conditions as her earlier arraignment: Hinshaw is not allowed to keep or consume any alcohol, or to enter bars or other places where alcohol is the primary purpose of business.

She can’t have any contact with the alleged victims or the Redmond School District, and any contact with minors must be pre-approved by the state Department of Human Services.

Hinshaw is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m.
