Redmond forms first ‘sister city’ relationship

KTVZ

The Redmond City Council voted unanimously this week to enter into a ‘”sister city” relationship with the town of Cuautla in the state of Jalisco in Mexico.

This is the first official sister city agreement signed by the city of Redmond. Sister city relationships are broad-based partnerships between the two communities and entered into to generate unique opportunities for cultural and educational initiatives.

“This is a huge step for Redmond as we raise the awareness of the value of cultural exchange and cultural diversity,” said City Manager Keith Witcosky. “This demonstrates our population is global and recognizes our community’s diversity brings broad benefit.”

On Saturday, Redmond Mayor George Endicott and Cuautla Mayor Luis Alvarto Robles Pena will officially exchange ‘Keys to the City’ at the Festival of Cultures celebration in downtown Redmond’s Centennial Park.

“Together, Redmond and Cuautla will strive to foster educational exchanges and promote cultural understanding, through our new sister city relationship,” Endicott said.
