Bend Spay-Neuter Project at Project Connect

KTVZ

On Saturday, Bend Spay and Neuter Project participated in the annual Project Connect Central Oregon event. A total of 47 cats and dogs were spayed or neutered and vaccinated for free on site at the event.

Although this was the fifth year of participation for Bend Spay and Neuter Project, this is the first year where a MASH style spay/neuter clinic was held on site.

A team of 30 volunteers, including four local veterinarians, four technicians, and about 20 caring community members worked together to set up the site, then safely and efficiently prep, anesthetize and recover the 47 animals in two tents.

In addition to the 47 free surgeries, 62 vouchers for free surgeries at their Bend clinic were handed out to those who came later in the day. Brightside Animal Center also handed out vouchers for free spay/neuter surgeries at their facility in Redmond.

“We are so excited to have held our first ever MASH style clinic and to have it be such a huge success. The 47 animals we helped at this event represent those most at risk of suffering and most in need of free services in our community,” said BSNP Executive Director Megan Wellinghoff.

This won’t be the last MASH style clinic you’ll see from BSNP. In the spring of 2015, BSNP will begin holding monthly MASH style clinics in Warm Springs to help with the feral and stray dog problem there.

Bend Spay and Neuter Project offers affordable, preventative veterinary care to animals at risk of suffering in Central Oregon in order to create a more humane community for us all.
