There’s one week left to resolve Oregon ballot issues

KTVZ

Oregon voters have until close of business on Tuesday , Nov. 18th, to cure any signature problems on their ballots. If the signature problem is not fixed by the deadline, the ballot will not be counted, state elections officials said Tuesday.

The list of voters with ballot signature problems will be made public on Wednesday , Nov. 12th. Campaigns are permitted to contact voters on the list. Campaigns are also permitted to provide transportation for voters, but laws prohibiting undue influence apply.

Voters who have any concerns or questions should contact the Secretary of State’s office at 503-986-1518 .

In order for a ballot to be counted, voters must sign the back of the ballot envelope. If the voter forgets to sign the ballot envelope or the signature does not match the signature on the voter registration card, county elections officials will contact the voter by mail and notify them of the Nov. 18 deadline to fix the problem.

Currently, approximately 13,000 ballots statewide have not been counted because of signature problems that can be cured by Nov. 18th. This represents less than 1% of the approximately 1.5 million ballots cast this election.

Voters who forgot to sign their ballot envelope must appear in person to their county elections office to sign the envelope. Voters with disabilities may contact their county elections office for assistance.

Voters whose signature did not match the signature on their registration card can fix the problem by signing a new registration card. The new registration card must be received by the county elections office no later than close of business on Tuesday , Nov. 18th. Postmarks do not count.

As voters cure their signature problems, their names will be removed from the Challenged Ballot list.
