Madras fugutive arrested after motorcycle pursuit
A motorcyclist driving in the wrong lane in downtown Madras refused to pull over late Saturday night, prompting a pursuit east of town that ended in a crash and the arrest of a 33-year-old Madras woman wanted on a fugitive warrant, Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins said.
The incident began around 11:15 p.m., when a deputy tried to stop the motorcycle in downtown Madras, Adkins said.
The deputy pursued the motorcycle through Madras and east of town at speeds ranging from 25 to 50 mph, the sheriff said.
During the pursuit, the motorcyclist threw items off the bike that were recovered by a Warm Springs tribal police officer, one of which contained a small amount of methamphetamine.
Madras police also assisted in the pursuit, which ended near the Hay Creek Ranch, about six miles east of Madras, when the motorcycle operator, identified later as Jaquelynn Marie Brown, 33, had a low-speed crash on the muddy road, the sheriff said.
The deputy took Brown into custody without incident and she was taken to the county jail in Madras, where she remained held without bail Sunday on the fugitive warrant, as well as charges of attempting to elude police, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license (misdemeanor) and methamphetamine possession.
A sheriff’s deputy said the warrant was issued by the state Parole Board after her early release from prison, having been convicted of burglary in Jefferson County last spring. He said authorities don’t know if the motorcycle was stolen.
