Fire destroys Terrebonne barn, closes roads

KTVZ

A fire destroyed a barn off Lower Bridge Way just west of Terrebonne Wednesday morning, also bringing down a power line and prompting closure of two roads for a time, officials said.

A passer-by spotted the fire and notified Deschutes County dispatchers around 6:20 a.m. The first crews to arrive at 3150 Northwest Lower Bridge Way found the 30-by-35-foot barn fully involved, with a downed power line beside it and propane tanks venting inside, said Redmond Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

A dozen career firefighters and a volunteer responded to the scene, with mutual-aid help provided by the Crooked River Ranch Fire Department, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Pacific Power. Three engines and three water tenders were used, along with two medic units and support personnel.

Crews held the fire to the barn itself, protecting an RV about 20 feet from the barn and a tractor 15 feet away, Cooper said.

Losses were estimated at $50,000 to the building and contents, Cooper said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

No animals were in the barn, she added.

Firefighting efforts closed Lower Bridge Way at first, then had it limited to one lane for a time, officials said. Also, 31 st Street was closed during the initial firefighting effort.
