Pacific Power Foundation aids 9 C.O. agencies

The Pacific Power Foundation has awarded grants totaling $26,000 to nine of Central Oregon’s leading agencies that help people in their daily lives.

“We’re proud to support organizations that pitch in and help in direct, effective ways,” said Angela Price, Pacific Power regional community manager. “Whether it is Meals on Wheels for seniors at risk, disaster relief kits from the Red Cross or help for victims of domestic abuse, these organizations are on the ground taking care of our neighbors who need assistance.”

Recipients include:

* American Red Cross-Central and Eastern Oregon Chapter. Disaster relief kits, volunteer training plus helping to purchase 15 trailers that can serve communities when disaster strikes.

* Central Oregon Council on Aging. Meals on Wheels for high risk seniors in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties.

* Deschutes Children’s Foundation. Facility management help that provides free classroom space, helps pay for upkeep.

* Deschutes County Healthy Beginnings. Pays for screenings and other health services for kids under 5.

* Kids Intervention and Diagnostic Service Center. Helps provide medical care, therapy and family support for abused children.

* MountainStar Family Relief Nursery. Funds organization that serves at risk families.

* Saving Grace: Imagine Life without Violence. Helps fund Central Oregon’s sole program to help victims of domestic violence get out of dangerous situations by paying for safe motels, bus tickets, medication and clothing.

* Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades. Training program for volunteers to staff clinic seeking to help central Oregon’s growing Latino population.

* St. Vincent De Paul. Donations helped pay for a fence to secure the agency’s affordable housing units.
