Bend teen facing charges in DUII chase, crashes

A 17-year-old Bend youth faces DUII, attempt to elude and other charges in connection with a pursuit and a pair of crashes in southeast Bend early Saturday, police said Sunday.

Officers responded around 1:15 a.m. Saturday to a reported crash in the 400 block of Southeast Woodland Avenue, said Lt. Clint Burleigh.

They arrived to find a burgundy 2006 Chevy Impala crashed in the front yard of a house, he said. As they got out of their patrol cars, the driver, alone in the car, drove away, leading officers on a pursuit through the neighborhood. Officers said it was not at high speeds.

During the chase, the driver crashed into another yard, in the 100 block of Southeast Fourth Street. Officers said in both cases it was primarily vegetation that damaged.

The teen continued to try to elude officers after the second crash and they lost sight briefly, but soon found the car and driver in the 100 block of Southeast Third Street.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody and cited, then released to his parents. He faces charges of DUII, attempt to elude, reckless driving and hit-and-run for the damage at the two locations, Burleigh said.
