The kindness of others helped raise over 1,400 donated baby items with an estimated value of the new and used articles to over $10,000 to the 2015 Soroptimist of Bend “Community Baby Shower” project.

“We have a generous community. DHS is very grateful that you (Soroptimist of Bend) has made us a partner in this venture,” commented spokesperson Therese Helton, of the Deschutes County Department of Social Services.

The annual “Community Baby Shower,” from February to March, enlists the generous support of Bend’s business community and local retirement homes. The outpouring of new and used donations and from the residential homes of handcrafted quilts, hats, booties, and sweaters all made with love and care. The Deschutes County Department of Human Services distributes all collected donations to area families in need.

Soroptimist of Bend (SI Bend) wishes to thank the following who give space in their stores by hosting a Baby Shower collection basket: Baby Phases, BJ’s Quilt Basket, Hopscotch Kids, Newport Market, QuiltWorks, WillowBerry@Rivals and C.E. Lovejoy’s Brookswood Market.

And, thanks to the retirement communities who handcraft clothing: Aspen Ridge, Prestige Senior Living High Desert, Stone Lodge, Touchmark and Whispering Winds
