Oregon House OKs concealed handgun license bill
The Oregon House passed on a 57-1 vote Thursday a measure to let valid concealed handgun licenses in one state be valid in others.
Rep. Bill Post (R-Keizer), a chief co-sponsor of HB 3093, said the bill would provide reciprocity for individuals from other states who have a valid concealed handgun license (CHL) permit from another state to legally carry in Oregon, as well as provide for reciprocity for Oregon residents carrying in other states.
“I have heard from hundreds of Oregonians asking us, the Legislature, to protect their Second Amendment rights,” Post said.
“I feel that this bill is a step in the right direction,” he added. “HB 3093 is a common-sense bill that would cut through bureaucracy and allow ordinary, law-abiding citizens from across the country to easily comply with Oregon law.
“If a registered, licensed driver can drive across any state line in their vehicle, why can’t a properly licensed CHL holder legally bring their firearm across state lines?”
Post represents the communities of Keizer, St. Paul and Newberg in the Oregon House. He currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Rural Communities, Land Use and Water Committee.
