SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers both decided this offseason it was time to upgrade over the quarterbacks who helped both franchises reach the Super Bowl in recent years. The Rams made a big deal to acquire Matthew Stafford to replace Jared Goff and the 49ers traded three first-round picks to take Trey Lance as Jimmy Garoppolo’s successor. The early returns halfway through the first season after those trades couldn’t be more different with the Rams headed into the first meeting between the teams tied for the second-best record in the NFL and the Niners mired at the bottom of the standings.
