Bend pair arrested on heroin, child neglect charges
A drug raid on a southwest Bend home late last week led to the arrest of a man and woman on heroin and marijuana charges, as well as child neglect involving the woman’s 7-year-old son, who was placed in protective state custody, police said Tuesday.
Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team detectives, assisted by Bend police, executed a search warrant around 9 a.m. last Thursday at a home at 19710 Harvard Place, said Lt. Ken Mannix.
The raid resulted from an investigation into heroin sales and distribution. Mannix said Matt Menke and Brettney Catterlin, 29, “were actively involved in the selling of street-level quantities of heroin throughout Deschutes County.”
Menke was taken into custody without incident as the raid took place. Catterlin and her son were contacted by CODE Team detectives as they were leaving the residence just before the search warrant was executed, Mannix said.
Evidence seized at the home included a small amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia, packaging material, scales and other evidence of heroin sales, manufacturing and distribution.
Detectives also seized a small marijuana grow of 18 plants in the home.
Menke and Catterlin were booked into the Deschutes County Jail on drug charges, as well as first-degree child neglect. Menke remained held Tuesday without bail on a probation violation warrant. A jail officer said Catterlin was conditionally released the next day (Friday) pending a July 19 court date.
