Sunriver Brewing Co. plans to open pub in NW Bend

There’s a new pub opening up in town. Less than a month after Oblivion Brewing decided to close its door on Galveston Avenue, another local brewery is stepping up to take its place.

The brewery is an award-winning brewhouse called Sunriver Brewing Co. The brewery’s pub first opened in the Village at Sunriver in 2012. It is now expanding to Bend.

Sunriver Brewing got its start with its first beer, Grandma’s Pale Ale, which was the co-owner’s grandmother’s last drink before she died. The pub has grown over the years and now brews over 50 types of beer.

Sunriver Brewing is now opening its second location, this time in Bend. The new pub will have many of the same tastes and flavors as Sunriver Brewing, but with an industrial look and feel.

The pub will be located in the former Westside Bakery building on Galveston Avenue. To mark its location, the new brewhouse will be called the Galveston Pub.

“We want to make sure the culture is very similar to what we’ve done here is Sunriver,” Ryan Duley, director of sales and marketing, said Thursday.

With the new location, Sunriver Brewing is also announcing its newest year-round beer, Rippin Northwest Ale.

“It really drinks well, like an IPA, but it has great hops aroma and taste. It passes your pallet really nicely, almost like a pale ale does,” Duley said.

To go with the beer, the pub offers a menu complete with sandwiches, burgers and entrees.

“I look forward to bringing our food to Bend and showing you what we can do,” co-owner Brian Cameron said.

The Galveston Pub also will feature a patio that replicates an Oregon bridge. The patio will have fire pits, so it can be used year-round.

The pub is working to complete the construction and remodel and will open its doors to the public in February. A grand opening and release for the pub’s Rippin Northwest Ale is planned for Feb. 13.
