KTVZ

The Family Access Network (FAN) is the recipient of a $5,000 donation to be used to help address basic-needs for children and their families in Deschutes County.

The funds from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation will help provide essential services such as food, clothing, shelter, medical and dental care (includes health insurance) and more through the FAN advocates in our communities.

Foundation Executive Director Carma Mornarich says, “Every six months for almost 20 years, this foundation awards grants to a large number of charities in Southwestern Oregon.

“Every single one of those grants has made a difference in educating youth, in feeding the hungry, and, in general, improving community. The problems left unsolved would be staggering in number without the work done by these non-profit organizations. It has been this Tribe’s great privilege to be involved in funding assistance for each of these efforts.”

FAN began inJanuary 1993and currently employs 25 advocates in 50 public school (K-12) and early childhood sites. FAN improves lives by ensuring that children have access to basic-need services.

FAN is unique to Central Oregon, utilizing advocates to efficiently reach and connect disadvantaged children and families with basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, and health care.

The mission of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation is to offer assistance in youth education, strengthen youth and family, provide positive youth development, and add to the quality of life for people in southwestern Oregon. Since 1997, the CCUIF has awarded $15,521,977 in grants to non-profit organizations. Awards are made semi-annually, in January and June.
