Deschutes deputies warn: Scammers still calling

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday night it’s received more complaints of citizens being contacted by scammers claiming to work for the Sheriff’s Office and requesting money by pre-paid card to clear supposed warrants.
The sheriff’s office said it is actively investigating this scam. If you receive any calls of that type, you’re asked to contact the agency at 541-693-6911.
No law enforcement agency in Central Oregon will call citizens and ask for credit card, pre-paid card, debit card or checking account information, deputies said.
The urged: Don’t agree to meet the person to make a payment. Also, do not give out any personal information or wire money to a person under these circumstances.
