Bend-La Pine Schools

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Police and Bend-La Pine Schools investigated a report of a student with a knife at Deschutes River High School, concluding there was no legitimate danger to campus safety and security.

KTVZ News learning of the incident shortly before a planned Bend-La Pine Schools community engagement meeting concerning the Silver Rail Elementary School shooting Thursday evening.

Following allegations that a pupil had a knife on campus, Bend police were dispatched to Deschutes River High School to conduct a joint investigation with district officials. Authorities determined that school security was not compromised and no actual threat existed.

In a notification message sent to families, which was sent on Tuesday afternoon, the high school principal urged students and members of the public to report any concerning or hazardous observations to officials immediately, allowing school personnel and law enforcement to intervene promptly and maintain a safe learning environment.

Dear Deschutes River High School Families,

Deschutes River High School staff responded to a report that a student brought a knife to school late last week. Administrators worked with the District Safety Department and the School Resource Officer to investigate the incident and determine appropriate next steps and safety measures.

We received additional reports of subsequent threats related to the initial incident, which we investigated in collaboration with the Bend Police Department. Police determined there is no credible threat to school safety.

We remain committed to ensuring student and staff safety. Students and community members should report anything they see that is troubling or unsafe so that we are able to address it and keep our campus safe. When situations arise, we follow district protocols and work with the students involved, their families, our staff, and law enforcement. If you see or hear a safety threat, report it immediately to the SafeOregon tip line at safeoregon.com, or call 911.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Our community is stronger when we connect and work together.

Sincerely,

Dr. LaKisha Clark, Principal
