Deschutes County College applications sought

Have you wondered how your Deschutes County tax dollars are spent? Do you know what services Deschutes County provides to you? Deschutes County is accepting applications for Deschutes County College – a free and fun program that can help you learn more about County government.

Deschutes County College will be held onTuesdayevenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sessions begin on Sept. 6 and conclude on Nov. 8. The program includes interactive tours, activities and presentations about County services and their impacts. Dinner is provided. Participants must attend eight or more sessions to graduate.

Topics and tours include:

Property assessment and taxation
Budget
Public safety
County governance and the policy-making process
Health services
Road maintenance and solid waste
Community development and land use planning
Records and elections
Tours of Knot Landfill, the County Jail, Elections/Clerk’s Office, Road Department (equipment), 9-1-1 dispatch center, Juvenile Community Justice detention center, and the Fair & Expo Center.

Space is limited and an application and background check are required. Applicants from Sisters, Redmond, and La Pine are encouraged to apply. Due to limited meeting space, not all applicants will be accepted.
