Two motorcyclists on Skyliners Road west of Bend were injured Sunday morning when a driver pulled out of a driveway into their path and the two motorcycles collided with her SUV, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies and Bend Fire medics responded around 10:15 a.m. to the reported crash near milepost 8.5 on Skyliners Road, said Sgt. Doug Sullivan.
An investigation found that Stephen Wobber, 48, of Camas, Washington, and Lawrence Nilson, 45, of La Center, Washington were traveling with a tour group heading west on Skyliners Road. Nilson was riding a white 2006 KTM motorcycle and Wobber an orange 2014 KTM motorcycle, Sullivan said.
A white Jeep Cherokee driven by Victoria Deeks, 58, of Bend, pulled out from a private driveway onto the road in front of the two motorcyclists, causing both to crash into the SUV, the sergeant said.
The two motorcyclists were taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. A house supervisor said both were treated and released.
Deeks was cited for failure to yield before entering a roadway. Nilson was cited for driving with a suspended license, Sullivan said
Wobber and Nilson were wearing protective riding gear and helmets. Sullivan said both men attributed their lack of severe injuries to the protective gear they were wearing.
