Driver killed in Highway 20 crash near Sweet Home

A Sweet Home woman was killed Monday afternoon when her pickup truck left U.S. Highway 20 and overturned, Oregon State Police reported.
OSP troopers and emergency personnel responded around 2 p.m. to the reported single-vehicle crash near milepost 23, five miles west of Sweet Home, said OSP Captain Bill Fugate.
A preliminary investigation found a 2001 GMC pickup driven by Debora Gerig, 42, was heading east on Highway 20 when she drove off the road and rolled over, Fugate said. Gerig was thrown from the pickup and pronounced dead while being taken to the hospital.
The crash blocked both eastbound lanes of Highway 20 for several hours, with a detour in place.
OSP was assisted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Sweet Home Fire & Ambulance District and ODOT.
Fugate said more information will be released when available.
