Hoodoo ski area preparing for opening day

KTVZ

Hoodoo ski area is expected to announce its opening day Thursday, but in the meantime, workers are preparing for the season ahead.

And as the ski season starts up, skiers begin to trek to their favorite mountains — and Hoodoo is well worth the snowy-road drive.

“We don’t make snow up here,” Daidre Streeter, Hoodoo’s office manager,, said Wednesday. “We are all natural, so it takes us a little longer to get going. But when it does, a lot of times we get more snow than other places.”

They’ve been preparing for the start of the season, and they are definitely ready.

“We’ve got the ‘cats on the hill right now, packing it all down, seeing what the snow quality, is and everyone’s just running around right now doing their jobs and getting ready,” Streeter said.

Getting ready also includes making sure the Hoodoo family is ready to launch the lifts and teach the toddlers.

“We’ve hired all our employees,” Streeter said. “We still have some positions available, but for the most part we have a crew that’s ready to start.”

Those positions include ski instructors and kitchen staff.

But no matter how ready the staff is, it’s all up to the snowpack.

While Mother Nature is getting the mountain itself ready, the employees also have a couple of new improvements that they’re making to the lodge — new carpets and a brand new bar.

And with these new amenities and all the fresh powder, comes the promise of a great ski season.
