Medford OKs zoning changes to allow pot shops
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The Medford City Council has approved changes to zoning laws allowing the sale of recreational marijuana within city limits.
The Mail Tribune in the southern Oregon town reports (http://bit.ly/2gR8Myx) that six members of the council voted unanimously Thursday night to allow marijuana shops in various commercially zoned areas.
Councilor Clay Bearnson recused himself from discussion as an Oregon Health Authority dispensary owner, and Councilor Chris Corcoran did not attend.
Voters narrowly approved marijuana sales within city limits in the November election.
Councilor Kevin Stine says the results of the city’s ballot measures allowed retail sales, banned outdoor grows and approved a 3 percent sales tax within city limits.
In 2014, passage of Measure 91 legalized recreational marijuana in Oregon.
