An incident involving an upset Bend Memorial Clinic patient, reportedly with a gun, prompted a precautionary half-hour lockdown of nearby St. Charles Bend, according to officials.

St. Charles spokeswoman Lisa Goodman confirmed to NewsChannel 21 that a “Code Silver” lockdown was put in place, which she said indicates an imminent threat at or near the facility. She was locked in her office, as the protocol indicates, and had no further details to immediately share.

Goodman later confirmed that at 2:26 p.m., St. Charles Bend’s security team got a call from Deschutes County 911 dispatchers, advising the facility to lock down due to a threat at Bend Memorial Clinic.

“A patient there was unhappy about his care and had a weapon on his person, but did not make threats with it,” the hospital official said.

“The patient left and the Bend Police Department notified St. Charles about 30 minutes later that it could lift its lockdown,” Goodman said. “The man did not commit a crime and is being sought by police.”

According to the unconfirmed scanner reports, the patient at BMC, located across Northeast Neff Road from the hospital, became angry and wanted a different doctor.

BMC officials contacted police, after which the hospital was placed on lockdown. Police also reportedly were following the man, who left the clinic in a blue vehicle police were following to make a stop.
