Lower Deschutes boater passes move to recreation.gov

Beginning no earlier than January 4, the Prineville District BLM will start using Recreation.gov to issue boater passes for the Lower Deschutes River in Central Oregon.

The fee to float the river remains the same: $2/person/day, with an additional $6/person/day on peak weekend days during the summer.

With Recreation.gov, a new $6 per entire transaction (regardless of the number of people or number of days) will be charged. This $6 per transaction fee allows Recreation.gov to recoup the cost of building the boater pass program from the actual users of the river, not the general public.

BLM encourages river users to go online now, check out the recreation.gov website, and set up their own individual account.

Recreation One-Stop is an interagency partnership among Federal agencies to provide reservation services, sharable data and recreation trip-planning information for federal lands and waters in the United States. There are about 3,000 facilities, with more than 90,000 individual campsites, hosted on Recreation.gov.
