Kitchen grease fire damages NE Prineville apartment

KTVZ

A family fled their northeast Prineville apartment Monday when grease ignited while the residents were deep-frying food, causing a damaging kitchen fire, officials said.

Crook County Fire and Rescue was dispatched at 11:46 a.m. to a fire at a home on Northeast 10 th Street, said Fire Chief Matt Smith. Crews arrived to find a fire burning in the kitchen of one unit of a four-plex apartment.

The occupants had evacuated when the fire began.

The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen of the apartment and there was some extension to the attic, Smith said, but the three other apartments were not damaged.

Two Red Cross disaster responders were called to the scene and helped the two adults, two children and a pet with immediate basic needs and recovery information.
