Searchers find missing Mt. Hood snowboarder

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) – A 19-year-old snowboarder reported missing Saturday after riding out of bounds of the Timberline Ski Area on Mount Hood was found safe by searchers overnight, authorities said Sunday..

Around 1:15 a.m., Mountain Wave SAR, a volunteer non-profit that assists in search and rescue efforts, said on Twitter that the missing snowboard had been “located and is OK. Bringing him out now.”

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they had walked the snowboarder out and got him warmed up, taking him back to the Timberline Ski Area.

The sheriff’s office said the Mount Hood Ski Patrol had reported the man missing Saturday evening. He had been riding with a group of people but had gone out in front of them and later couldn’t be found.

Sgt. Nathan Thompson said the snowboarder’s tracks led into into the Little Zigzag Canyon area, where people frequently get lost.

Thompson said the man is an experienced snowboarder but did not have overnight supplies with him. He had some water and beer but no cell phone or GPS device.
